How to change window's system icons?

Hi, guys I am back today with a new tutorial. In this tutorial I am going to teach how to change the system icons of Windows operating system. I am using Windows 7 professional here. There are many software that allow to change some icons but these software do not change the root file. They just put new custom icon file over the default icon.

But I am going to show how to change the root icon itself i.e. default icon. I am going to use GConvert 5.2 for this process. Ok lets get started.

1. Things you need to know.
  i. The system icons is stored in shell32.dll and imageres.dll in C:\\windows\system32\ .
ii. If we change the system icons directly then either it will give error or will not work properly.
iii. You must have a icon file ready. Using GConvetrt you can extract as well as make icon files from                  images.

2. Software needed.
  i. GConvert 5.2: Get it from here: download its trial version form here(official link) or here(official link 2)    and crack from here(this downloading is in your risk. Cracking is bad thing. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ILLEGAL THING DONE BY YOU)

3. Mains part.
I am going to change the icon of the dll file format.
.dll icons before customizing it

 i. At first download the GConvert from any lik given above. After downloading install it.

ii. Now copy imageres.dll and paste it in any location. I am copying it in desktop. And also keep   its one copy in other location as backup.

iii. Now open GConvert 5.2. If you dont have icon file but only PNG image then create an icon by clicking create an icon option in right side of window. You should make 5 images of 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 128x128 and 256x256 resolution in .ico for a perfect icon.

iv. Open imageres.dll which you have copied. I have copied it in desktop.

v. After opening it it will be seen like this:

vi. Now click on tools option in menu bar and then click Modify icons in EXE/DLL... .

vii. Locate the icon which you want to replace. Here I am going to replace .dll's icon.

viii. Click on Modify selected icon... . A open window will pop-up.

ix. Now select the .ico file which you want to replace over selected icon and click open or hit enter.

x. You can see that old icon file is replaced with new custom icon. Yes the .dll has been modified. We dont need to save it directly close the GConvert.

xi. Now go to c://windows/system32/ and move imageres.dll (just cut and past somewhere or                  directly drag in other location of same drive. For eg drag in document folder). You cannot              delete this file because it is currently in use. Now copy or move the updated or modified                  imageres.dll in c://windows/system32/ taking over the position of old imageres.dll .

NOTE: If imageres.dll refused to move then you need to gain control over it. For this:
    a) Right click on imageres.dll in c://windows/system32/ and click on properties.
    b) Go to security tab. You can see that you are oly allowed to read and execute this file.
    c) Now click on Advance button.
    d) Click in owner tab.
    e) Click on edit button.
    f) Select any one user group from the change owner to option.
    g) Click on apply and then in pop-up ok and again on ok.
    h) Now exit the properties and once again right click and open properties and security
    i) Now click on Administrator if you are running in the main account. This is default account.
    j) Now tick in Full control's allow list.
   k) Now click apply and then in warning click yes and then ok. Now exit it and you will be able to
move the file in other location.

Yes you have successfully replaced the icon. I have replaced the .dll's icon and it is seen like this now:
